No More "Running Around" for Hazardous Work Permit Filing and Registration

On every workday, the Gas Protection Station of the Power Division at Yugang Company used to be bustling, with employees from various departments continuously coming to file and register hazardous work permits. Recently, however, the usual "busy scene" at the station has disappeared. It is understood that this change resulted from the division's adoption of "internet + permit registration" as a key step in deepening "transformative thinking and innovative action." By optimizing the processing workflow and implementing online electronic registration and filing, they have made it more convenient for units to file and register, achieving the goal of letting data travel more so that employees travel less.
The Gas Protection Station of the Power Division is responsible for issuing permits for special-grade and Grade-1 hot work, confined space entry, and blind flange operations on public pipelines within Yugang Company. Since January 2018, the station has implemented hazardous work permit filing and registration, requiring all units to submit their hazardous work permits to the Gas Protection Station 24 hours before commencing such operations. Professional staff then review and file these permits, standardizing the management of the company's three types of hazardous work: hot work, confined space entry, and blind flange operations.

However, in early April, an inspector coming to register permits remarked, "There's so much maintenance work on site today; I've already made three trips just for registration and filing. Isn't there a way to handle permit registration without all this running around?" This comment struck a chord with Xu Weidong, the lead operator for blind flange detection at the Gas Protection Station. He paused to reflect and suddenly realized that their workflow was indeed outdated. Day after day, they had been continuing with the same old methods without innovation. During peak maintenance periods, they sometimes processed over 200 permit registrations daily, which not only inconvenienced those submitting the permits but also added to the workload of the Gas Protection Station staff.
Starting from the goal of reducing the burden on both permit submitters and station staff, Xu Weidong shifted away from conventional thinking and proposed using the internet to handle hazardous work permit filing and registration. Consequently, a mini-program for hazardous work registration was developed. Units applying for hazardous work permits can now scan a QR code for hazardous work permit filing and registration to submit and upload their permits via smartphone. This not only provides convenience for all units but also enhances the efficiency of the permit review process for Gas Protection Station staff, enabling visual completion of the audits.
