The lean equipment management at the rolling mill has a new "highlight." After thoroughly cleaning and categorizing the spare parts area of the cold bed, Bar 2 Hot Rolling took the lead in using QR codes to manage spare parts, achieving excellent results.

During production breaks, the employees of Bar 2 fully engaged in the cleaning and organizing of the spare parts area. "This area has always been a blind spot, neglected with spare parts scattered everywhere. We must take this opportunity of lean equipment management to properly organize it!" emphasized Wan Sheng, the workshop director of Bar 2 Hot Rolling, during the mobilization meeting.

Action followed words. Team A was responsible for making low shelves specifically for placing ground rollers; Team B was tasked with arranging and numbering all the shelves; Teams C and D were in charge of placing all spare parts on the shelves; the inspection team was responsible for hanging movable number tags on the spare parts. After nearly three months of effort, the on-site environment of the cold bed spare parts area underwent a dramatic transformation. Various spare parts were neatly categorized and arranged, ready for QR code labeling.

Employee feedback: "Previously, inventory checks for the cold bed area spare parts took a full day and were still inaccurate. Now, it’s done in less than half a day effortlessly and with great accuracy." Jiang Bo, the person in charge of the second cold bed area inspection, happily gave a thumbs-up when mentioning the use of QR codes.

Leveraging information tools, the Bar 2 Hot Rolling workshop applied QR codes to the digital management of spare parts, replacing the outdated method of relying on manual memory and table lookups. Now, inspectors, maintenance personnel, and operators can easily and quickly check the status of spare parts on the corresponding shelves by scanning the QR codes with their phones. The application of QR codes enables detailed recording of the entire process of spare parts management, including storage, positioning, and inventory checks, achieving closed-loop management throughout the entire lifecycle of spare parts. Seeing the remarkable results of QR code management in Bar 2 Hot Rolling, the other three production lines have also sent personnel to learn and observe, preparing to apply this management method to their own production lines.

This use of QR codes for spare parts management is a small attempt and innovation in the lean equipment management of the rolling mill. In this year's work, the rolling mill will continue to guide employees in innovation and efficiency improvement, accelerating the establishment of basic information management records in equipment management and inspection management, further enhancing the level of lean production and equipment management.
